I ain't about all that soppy drivel that's being peddled today just for the likes. Fuck poems that are neatly condensed into social media captions for simple-minded readers. Let's be honest, real literature is messy and convoluted, and my poetry is no exception.
Maggots for Poems
i got stuck cleaning maggots
instead of writing poetry
all the kettle water in the world
wouldn’t keep the bin clean
it was like a horror movie scene
talk about mise en scene
quite like walking under swindon
town shopping centre’s mezzanine
asked my wife to hold the bin bag
and she rightfully screamed
i looked her in the eyes and said
“i should be writing poetry”
instead i stood there pouring
on to maggots bleach
i should have tied the bin bags better,
hanged, draw strung, quartered and fettered
couldn’t leave the wheelie bin so stinky
i made a promise to the bin man
with my pinky
but when he came with his truck o’ shit
he said with voice somewhat misanthropic
“it’s looking clean as a whistle,
we best sound the bugle,
this maggot massacre is brutal”
to me this feedback was crucial
then, with a fumigated air
he spoke knowingly:
“mate,
you should’ve been writing poetry”
